Ellen Hope works as an independent choreographer, performer, and producer based in Boorloo (Perth), creating pieces that move between the intimate and the theatrical. Since completing her undergraduate dance degree at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2016, Hope has steadily grown her choreographic practice through residencies across Australia and overseas, as well as through ongoing practice-as-research.
Hope completed her Honours degree in 2020 and commenced a Master of Performing Arts at WAAPA in 2026, deepening her focus on rigorous, research-informed creative practice. She has created works for several FRINGE WORLD festivals and STRUT Dance projects, and has choreographed commissioned pieces for WAAPA students.
In 2022, Hope choreographed and performed MOODY, a full-length work at The Blue Room Theatre that explored her lived experience of Bipolar Disorder. This project reflects the core of her artistic vision: a commitment to centring personal vulnerability, emotional honesty, and embodied storytelling, while she advocates for mental well-being in the arts.
